Jhn 20:18

Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

LUKE 7 In 591 AD, Pope Gregory assimilated this woman with MARY M and the penitent sinner. “She whom Luke calls the sinful woman, whom John calls Mary, we believe to be the Mary from whom seven devils were ejected according to Mark. And what did those devils signify, if not all the vices?...It is clear, brothers, that the woman previously used the unguent to perfume her flesh in forbidden acts.” (Homily, XXXIII). From this point on these verses were read on her feast day of July 22. He also associated her with the woman in John 8.

This was not revised until 1969!!! By Pope Paul VI and the reading was replaced with John 20 and the title of “sinner” was dropped from her feast day. [Ralls pg 25-27].

In art, she is portrayed as the penitent--largely commissioned by the church. but those in the Hermetic tradition paint her on JESUS LEFT--a place reserved for the beloved. She is often portrayed as the equal opposite of Jesus and with flowing red hair--celtic!

Micah 4:8-11

Nag Hammadi

The Gospel of Philip reads: “The companion of the Savior is Mary Magdalene. But Christ loved her more than all the disciples and used to kiss her often on her mouth. The rest of the disciples were offended by it and said to Him, ‘Why do you love her more than all of us?’ The Savior answered, ‘Why do I not love you as much as I love her?’

Great is the mystery of marriage! For without it, the world would not exist. Now the existence of the world [...], and the existence of [...] marriage. Think of the [...] relationship, for it possesses [...] power.

Gospel of Thomas

Peter said to Mary, “Sister we know that the Teacher loved you differently from other women. Tell us whatever you remember of any words he told you which we have not heard.”

Pistis Sophia

When Jesus had said these things to his disciples, he told them, “whoever has ear to hear should hear.” Now it happened when Mary heard those words as the savior was speaking, she gazed into the air for an hour and said, “My master, command me to speak openly.’ The compassinate Jesus answered and siad to Mary, “Blessed Mary, you whom I shall complete with all the mysteries on high, speak openly, for you are one whose heart is set on heaven’s kingdom more than all your brothers.”

Dialogue of the Savior

“The Woman who knew the ALL.”

Gospel of the Beloved Disciple--

32:4 But hearing this, Yeshua said to them, "Leave her be. she has anointed me for what I am come to do, and done what she is appointed to do. Only from the truth I tell you, whenever they speak of me, what she hs done will also be told in memory of her. You do not know or understand what she has done. I tell you this: when all have abandonded me only she shall stand beside me like a tower. A tower built on a high hill and fortified cannot fall, nor can it be hidden. From this day forth, she shall be known as Migdalah, for she shall be as a tower to my flock, and the time will soon come when her tower shall stand alone by mine.:

42:2 “My master spoke thus to me. He said, ‘Miryam, blessed are you who came into being before coming into being, and whose eyes are set upon the kingdom, who from the beginning has understood and followed my teachings. Only from the truth I tell you, there is a great tree within you that does not change, summer or winter, and its leaves do not fall. Whosoever listens to my words and ascends to its crown will not taste death, but know the truth of eternal life.

Gospel of Mary--shows a vision of 7 levels of ascent. She teaches them. Peter castigates her and Levi/Matthew defends her by saying, “But if the savior made her worthy, who are you to reject her?”

Another common legend talks about St. Mary Magdalene's role as an evangelist, helping to spread the Gospel. It says that after Jesus' Ascension, Mary travelled to visit the Emperor Tiberius in Rome and greeted him with: “Christ has risen” [a traditional Orthodox Easter greeting, also adopted by many Christians]; whereupon he pointed to an egg on his table and quipped, “Christ has no more risen than that egg is red.” The egg, it is said, immediately turned blood red.

We may rightly call Mary Magdalene the "first Apostle", in view of Bishop Hippolytus of Rome's (2nd-3rd century) assigning her the title of "apostle of the apostles" and the "new Eve", because of her announcement of Christ's Resurrection to the Apostles, as well as the Eastern Church's longstanding acceptance of her as one of them.
